Oh my! I realized I missed last week. I’d love to say I’ve been busy, but I haven’t been, not really.
I have been writing some and going to the gym with my sons, but I’ve also been just wasting time. I guess that’s not a terrible thing, but this is my last week to do that because then I need to start curriculum planning, so I better get serious about A Redeeming Love.
My daughter just finished her second week of drama camp which is so much fun. They get a chance to sing songs they wouldn’t normally get to do in the shows (usually because they were too young when they did it). This last week, she was in She’s in Love from The Little Mermaid, which she might do again in the show if she’s cast as a mersister, and High Adventure from Aladdin, which she probably won’t do again because Aladdin will probably be next year or the year after and she might be old enough for Jasmine or Genie. They did a great harmony and it was good to see her stretch herself — she swears she can’t sing high but she can.
I was really hoping they would do Annie this year as well so she could be an orphan, but the older kids don’t want to do it, so I spent too many hours yesterday scanning musicals to see what else they could do. Let me tell you, I wish I knew how to write music because some of these new musicals are awful. I watched Matilda Jr, which is okay but I don’t love the theme of sometimes you have to be naughty. Then I watched Finding Nemo, which has a song about poo. Into the Woods looks interesting but needs way too many boys (we usually have 2-3). There was this one called Dear Edwina, but it was more like a revue than a story which I don’t love. Then there were Junior plays for 9 to 5, but they’re still older woman at jobs (make it make sense), Legally Blond (still a lawyer getting engaged), Hairspray (where they still call it colored music and negro hour — I can’t), and Beetlejuice (not super kid friendly). I found one Cinderella Jr that was pretty cute except for a song that literally is about falling in love within 10 minutes. Sigh. I’m glad I’m not the director, but I was hoping to find something amazing to share with her.
Today, my goal is writing and probably a trip to the gym, but mostly writing. Until then, enjoy some of the great promos below. There are some free books and some cheap books so happy reading!
